FIRELIGHT IMPROV WORKSHOP PRESENTER RYAN BROUSSARD
|
Ryan Broussard has come a long way from being afraid of reading Shel
Silverstein to his 3rd grade class. After various minor roles in middle school,
Ryan became one of the most devoted Mask & Gavel Drama Club members at
Lafayette High, eventually becoming president.
It was his senior year that he really began to appreciate Improvisational
Theater, being accepted into a week long training course with several
members of "Chicago City Limits", a professional Improv theater company
from New York. In place of regular classes, he and those accepted were
trained in the fundamentals of making stuff up, character and world building,
and knowing everything there is to know about subjects you've never learned.
It was liberating. In college, he auditioned for UL-Lafayette's Cult of the Stage
Monkey after seeing a flier with pictures of people bent in funny ways and
making faces. The words "cult", "stage", and "monkey", caused Ryan to say
outloud "That is exactly where I need to be!". He auditioned.. and missed the
cut. Undeterred, he re-auditioned a year later, to warmly be welcomed into the
family. Three and a half years, several cast changes, dozens of
performances, and hundreds of strange and unique characters later, Ryan
became Co-Director of CoSM, a role he took on happily. Ryan retired from
both performance and directing this past May, after knowing the future of
CoSM is in such great hands. He is a recent addition as Company Member to
Acting Up (In Acadiana), out of Lafayette, La.
Ryan graduated from UL-Lafayette in December 2006 with a Bachelor of
Science Psychology Degree. He currently works at Acadiana C.A.R.E.S.,
where he makes a living speaking in front of large groups of people.
